Okay, so first
things first. I MET A DEAF MAN!! I REPEAT I MET A DEAF MAN AND WE SIGNED WITH
HIM! Yup, last week one of my mission goals was accomplished by riding bikes
and this week my other mission goal was accomplished as I met a Deaf person and
signed with him. And you will never believe it. One of our wards in our stake
has an interpreter and he said he was going to come to church. Yup. My life is
complete. It was seriously one of the best things in the entire world. What was
even more cool was that Sister Markus knows sign language and so we would sign
all the time to each other and then we both could sign with him and if one of
us didn't know what he said the other one did and so yup, it was a power house team.
(:
ANYWAYS...We were
teaching this lady and randomly she quoted Hillary Clinton (I think....) and
she said, "when someone shows you their true colors believe them."
The lady we were teaching was talking about her crazy ex-husband, but the
thought that flashed into my mind was the Savior and His true character. Some
times I think that we forget the many might miracles we have witnessed because
of Him, or the tender mercies, or the little ways he has led us out of the
darkness of our own trials. We are so grateful for them in the moment and then
when the next hard thing comes around the corner we forget and say "Why
hast thou forsaken me?" When in reality He hasn't. It is not in His
character to abandon us or leave us helpless.
Elder Holland says
it best, "No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how
great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and He never
will. He cannot do it. It is not His character [to do so]. … He will [always]
stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep
waters; but we shall not be consumed nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all
these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them.” (Elder Holland,
Tomorrow the Lord Will Do Wonders Among You.)
When those hard
times come we cannot be like Laman and Lemuel who was miracles right and left
and then, with their short term memory loss, forgot all that the Lord had done
for them. The Savior wants to help us and He will if we let Him. If we continually
remember who our Savior is and remember his true colors. He is the one who
loved us so much that he suffered for us in the Garden of Gethsemane. The one
that went through everything we have and will go through because He wanted us
to know we don't have to go through it alone. The one that knows you perfectly,
flaws and all, and still He wants you to come home.
In your hard times
remember the true colors of the Savior, then turn to Him with full purpose of
heart.
Love you all lots!
Have a fantastic week!!
